From SALT Client to Team Member: Giving Back One Meal at a Time

At SALT Outreach, our team shows up daily not just to work, but to pour love, time, and even their own resources into our unhoused friends—often going above and beyond their roles. Many of our clients constantly wonder where their next meal will come from. So when one of our outreach assistants, Preanna King, decided to cook and serve a hot meal—completely out of her own pocket, with the help of two coworkers who donated ingredients—it wasn’t just a kind gesture. It was a powerful reminder of what it looks like to lead with compassion.
On Tuesday, July 8, Preanna took it upon herself to provide a warm, home-cooked meal for the clients at our Orlando location. The night before, she lovingly prepared a hearty meal of meat, rice, and salad. She then used her own lunch break to personally serve the food to our clients, ensuring they received more than just a meal—she gave them care and dignity.
What makes this even more special is Preanna's journey. She was once a client at SALT herself. As a mother of five, she received critical support through our programs, eventually securing permanent housing just 10 minutes from the very location where she now works. Her story is a powerful example of resilience and what’s possible when a community wraps around someone in need.
Preanna shared,
“This is something I’ve always wanted to do since working here. I believe our clients deserve a proper meal—especially after the Fourth of July. Not everyone gets to spend the holiday with a warm meal.”
At SALT, we work as a team to serve with purpose. We know many of our clients face daily challenges that rob them of joy and fulfillment. Meals like the one Preanna prepared do more than nourish bodies—they restore hope.
